Hi there! I’m Charlotte, a food historian and food writer from Amsterdam.

I studied History and French in Amsterdam and Paris and I followed a master in food history in Tours (France) and Brussels. Currently, I'm working part time as the curator of the cookery books at Allard Pierson, the collections of the University of Amsterdam. There, I also help organise the yearly Amsterdam Symposium on the History of Food.

I write articles and interviews on food in the Amsterdam newspaper Parool, for which I wrote a weekly recipe column during three years. Other articles of me appeared in the newspaper Trouw, Archaeology Magazine, glossy JAN, food magazine Bouillon and more.

In 2018, I published the book Luilekkerland, 400 koken in Nederland [400 years of cooking in the Netherlands] together with my father, food and wine writer Onno Kleyn. My first solo book, Trek, eten onderweg, toen en nu, will be published on the 23rd of February 2021 and deals with the history of eating on the go. From food in the army, trains, airplanes and ships, the history of picnics, camping, and more.

I've also done research for food television, gave lectures on a broad range of subjects, and I’m always into doing new projects!
